22 kW Generac 7260 standby generator
A 22 kW Generac standby generator:
Louis in Middletown, NJ had Green Sun Energy Services install a Generac 22/21 kW air-cooled standby generator (Model 7260) in September of 2026. The home is served by a 200-amp electrical service, and the system was sized for 2,500 square feet of living space. Fuel is natural gas supplied by the existing utility line.
The transfer arrangement is a managed whole-house setup using a Generac 200-amp service entrance rated automatic transfer switch (Model G0099280) with an integrated surge protection device. When JCP&L power goes out, the switch detects the outage and signals the generator to start, then transfers the full house load automatically — no manual steps required. Two Load Management Modules are included to handle the smart control of two 60-amp devices, allowing the generator to shed those loads automatically if demand approaches its capacity and restore them when headroom allows. This keeps the unit from being overloaded without requiring Louis to manually switch anything off.
The generator connects via cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, so Louis can check status and receive alerts remotely. The unit sits on a 5,000 PSI precast concrete pad (54″ × 32″ × 3″, 190 lbs), and a 12-volt start battery handles engine startup. Grounding runs #4 AWG copper wire from the water main to the service entrance main. The installation included up to 20 feet of electrical work and 20 feet of plumbing.
The installation is covered by a 5-year limited warranty from Generac on the equipment and a 5-year limited workmanship warranty from Green Sun Energy Services on the installation itself. Louis is also enrolled in a generator service plan that includes annual maintenance visits and an extended parts-and-labor warranty, so Green Sun will continue to look after the generator on a regular schedule going forward.

Standby generator questions from Middletown homeowners
Why do outages last longer on some Middletown streets than others?
Mature tree cover over overhead lines is the usual reason. Limbs coming down in wind, snow or ice take the lines with them, so heavily treed streets tend to see both more frequent outages and longer restoration times than open ones. It is one of the honest arguments for standby power rather than a portable generator.
What does a whole-house generator actually mean?
Whole-house generally means the transfer equipment serves the home's main electrical system rather than a small emergency-circuit panel. It does not promise unlimited capacity. High-demand appliances may still be prioritized or briefly shed while generator capacity is being used elsewhere.
Does the generator have to be bolted down?
Not every ground-level installation uses the same anchoring method. The requirement changes with the model, the pad type, wind exposure, flood requirements, elevated platforms and any local engineering requirement. The model manual and the site conditions decide it.
