Dominic from Farmingdale, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since March of 2024. He and Eileen signed in the second week of March and the generator was running by the start of May, a 22 kW Generac on a pad with a 150-amp service-rated transfer switch and a whole-house surge protective device, which guards the electronics against the spikes that come with a grid coming back up. A Generac service contract covers scheduled maintenance and monitoring. Farmingdale is in Monmouth County, where we install and service standby generators all year.

Green Sun Energy Services replied
Thank you, Dominic, and Mike will be glad to hear it. Routine is the right word for what an annual generator service should feel like from the homeowner's side: the 22 kW machine in Farmingdale gets the same checks every year, and courtesy on the doorstep is in the job description rather than a bonus.
Standby generator questions from Farmingdale homeowners
What is a service-entrance-rated transfer switch?
One that is listed for use as service equipment when installed in the appropriate configuration. These are commonly used for whole-house systems, where the transfer switch becomes part of the home's service arrangement rather than sitting downstream of it.
Will a 22 kW generator run an entire Farmingdale house?
For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.
Does the generator need its own gas shutoff?
The fuel installation has to include the shutoff arrangements required by the adopted fuel-gas code and by the installation instructions. The valve must be positioned where it is accessible, both for servicing and for isolating the machine in an emergency.
