Steve from Saddle Brook, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2021. This one was a replacement rather than a first install: the nine panels on the west side of the house came down along with the mounting system and the inverter, went out for proper disposal, and every roof penetration was sealed with silicone before anything new went up. The new array followed in December of that year – nine LG NeON H panels making 3.33 kW on a Snap-N-Rack rail-free mounting system with an array skirt, a SolarEdge inverter with P401 optimizers, and an ANSI-C12 meter hardwired to the router so production can be watched. Ninety-three feet of new critter guard went on at the same time, which is the moment to do it, with the array open and the gap beneath it still reachable. Interconnected with PSEG in February of 2022 and estimated at 4,029 kilowatt hours in the first year, with 25-year warranties on panels, mounting and electronics, and 15 years on our workmanship.

Solar questions from Saddle Brook homeowners
Should the roof be replaced before the panels go on?
If the roof is near the end of its life, replacing it first is often the sensible order, because removing and reinstalling an array later adds labor and materials. The decision turns on roof age, shingle condition, any leaks, the decking, the remaining warranty and how long the solar system is expected to last.
What is an interconnection application?
The technical application to the electric distribution company asking permission to connect the array to the grid. The utility may review the system size, the inverter, the one-line diagram, the service configuration, the export capability and the capacity of the circuit it would connect to.
How does residential solar work on a Saddle Brook home?
The panels convert sunlight into direct-current electricity, and an inverter or microinverters convert that into alternating current the house can use. When the array produces more than the house is drawing, the surplus flows out through the utility meter under New Jersey's net-metering rules. When the house needs more than the array is making, the difference comes from the utility.
