The generator was installed by another company, and the relationship began with a startup inspection on a machine we had not put in – the right first step, since the intervals mean nothing until somebody has established what condition a generator is actually in. Every interval since has been kept without a gap: the first-year service in August of 2020, then the two-year through to the seven-year service in March of 2026. A warranty repair and a billable service call were handled along the way. An annual maintenance plan, an extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage all sit behind the machine.

Which fuel-gas code applies?
New Jersey currently adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code as its Fuel Gas Subcode, which is what governs the piping, testing and shutoff arrangements on a natural-gas generator installation.
Does the generator need its own gas shutoff?
The fuel installation has to include the shutoff arrangements required by the adopted fuel-gas code and by the installation instructions. The valve must be positioned where it is accessible, both for servicing and for isolating the machine in an emergency.
Can Lincroft require a generator to sit farther from the house than the manufacturer does?
Yes. Another applicable requirement can result in greater separation than the manufacturer's listed minimum -- equipment may be permitted eighteen inches from a qualifying wall while the local ordinance requires several feet from a property line. Both requirements have to be satisfied; neither cancels the other.
