Standby Generator Service
Joanne from Rahway, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since September of 2021. The generator was installed by another company and commissioned in July of 2017, and the servicing came to us four years later. Every interval since has been kept – the four-year service in 2021, then 2022, 2023, 2024 and the eight-year service in October of 2025. Two manufacturer warranty repairs were handled along the way, in 2023 and 2025, both at no cost to the household because the machine was on a documented service record when the faults appeared. That is the part of a maintenance plan people underestimate: the visits are the visible half, and the claim you can actually make is the other.

Standby generator questions from Rahway homeowners
What size standby generator does a Rahway home need?
The correct size is decided by the electrical loads the generator is expected to run, not by the square footage of the house. Central air, heat pumps, electric heat, well and sump pumps, refrigerators and freezers, electric ranges and dryers, pool equipment and EV chargers all count. Where a load is connected automatically, the generator either has the capacity for it or an approved load-management system controls it.
Is every generator trench eighteen inches deep?
No. Eighteen inches is a common cover requirement for certain raceway installations, but it is not a universal generator-trench rule. The code table sets different minimum cover depending on the wiring method and where it runs.
Can the generator be connected to any nearby gas pipe?
No. The branch supplying the generator has to be sized for the flow and pressure the machine needs. A pipe that happens to be close by may be too small, or may already be carrying too much load. Undersized piping shows up as poor starting, unstable running, reduced output or a generator that shuts down under load.
