The array was finished that November: 46 LG NeON R panels making 16.79 kW into a SolarEdge inverter with optimizers, 264 feet of critter guard around the perimeter, and an estimated 20,775 kilowatt hours in the first year – PSEG interconnected it that January. The generator followed in December: 16 kW on natural gas with a 200-amp service disconnect, air conditioning load shedding, and the transfer switch mounted in the basement beside the service panel. Buying both at once is the thorough version of this – the panels cut what the house draws from the grid every day, and the generator covers the days the grid has nothing to give. An annual maintenance visit keeps the generator serviced.
