Elena from New Egypt, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since November of 2021. The generator was commissioned in May of 2022, rated 19.5 kW on natural gas where the load calculation asked for 15 kW. The house depends on electricity at both ends of its water: a well pump brings it in and two sump pumps keep it out, and an outage stops both at once. That is a different problem from losing the lights, and it is why the whole house is carried rather than a chosen set of circuits. A surge protective device went in alongside the machine.

Standby generator questions from New Egypt homeowners
Can a standby generator be installed in New Egypt without natural gas?
Yes. Residential standby generators commonly run on liquid propane. A properly sized tank, regulator and piping system has to be designed to deliver adequate vapour flow and pressure for the machine.
Does a generator produce less on natural gas than on propane?
Some models do have a lower rated maximum output on natural gas than on propane -- a current 22 kW machine is rated 22 kW on LP and 21 kW on natural gas. Other models carry their own ratings, so the model-specific specification sheet is what settles it rather than a general rule.
Does new gas piping have to be pressure tested in New Egypt?
Yes. Gas piping subject to the adopted fuel-gas code must be inspected and tested before it is accepted. New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code, which governs the inspection, the test pressure and how long the test has to hold.
