The generator was commissioned that November: a Generac Guardian rated 19.5 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp service-entrance switch with surge protection. The load calculation asked for 18 kW across the 2,000 square foot house, which is a great deal for that floor area – a well pump, two sump pumps and an electric dryer between them account for most of it. Three pumps is what makes backup power a necessity rather than a comfort here: no power means no water coming into the house and no way to move it out, at the same moment. Annual maintenance, an extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage all sit behind the machine.

Does new gas piping have to be pressure tested in Belford?
Yes. Gas piping subject to the adopted fuel-gas code must be inspected and tested before it is accepted. New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code, which governs the inspection, the test pressure and how long the test has to hold.
Does the generator have to be bolted down?
Not every ground-level installation uses the same anchoring method. The requirement changes with the model, the pad type, wind exposure, flood requirements, elevated platforms and any local engineering requirement. The model manual and the site conditions decide it.
Does the residential building code apply to a generator?
It can. For applicable one- and two-family dwellings New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Residential Code, subject to state amendments. Structural and flood-related generator installations may therefore need review under the residential subcode as well as the electrical and fuel requirements.
