The array was completed in February of 2018: 66 panels making 22.44 kW into two SolarEdge three-phase inverters, and an estimated 25,195 kilowatt hours in the first year. JCP&L interconnected it in March. This is a commercial installation rather than a residential one, and two things follow from that: the inverters are three-phase because the building’s supply is, and the flat roof was coated rather than stripped and re-shingled – a different preparation entirely, and the right one for the surface involved. At over twenty-two kilowatts it remains among the largest arrays we have built.

Can the system be switched on before the utility approves it?

A grid-connected system should not be placed into normal parallel operation until the utility has issued the required authorisation. Running it beforehand can breach the interconnection agreement and the utility's requirements.

Are panels designed for the wind near Matawan?
