Standby Generator Installation in Browns Mills, NJ | Then a 200-Amp Service Upgrade

Browns Mills, NJ · Client since July 2020

Emanuele from Browns Mills, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2020, and came back three years later. The generator was commissioned in September of 2020: 13 kW on natural gas, on a 100-amp managed whole-house switch, matching a 13 kW calculation for the 1,600 square foot house exactly. Three refrigerators and two sump pumps make up most of the load – a great deal of cold storage and a great deal of water for a house that size, and between them the whole argument for backup power. The service was upgraded to 200 amps overhead in September of 2023, three years after the generator went in. Annual maintenance, an extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage all sit behind the machine.

Standby generator questions from Browns Mills homeowners

Does new gas piping have to be pressure tested in Browns Mills?

Yes. Gas piping subject to the adopted fuel-gas code must be inspected and tested before it is accepted. New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code, which governs the inspection, the test pressure and how long the test has to hold.

Is the output the same on propane and natural gas?

Not necessarily. Many models are rated differently depending on fuel; a current 22 kW machine is rated 22 kW on LP and 21 kW on natural gas. The model-specific ratings should be compared before the generator is sized, not afterwards.

Can a generator be installed on a deck or a roof?

Platform, deck and supporting-structure installations are recognized, but they call for additional review: structural capacity, noncombustible surface requirements, fire clearance, exhaust, airflow, vibration, service access and local requirements all have to be addressed. It is a site-specific installation rather than a routine location.
