Kelly from Manahawkin, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since November of 2022. The generator was commissioned in December, sized against a 22 kW calculation for the 4,360 square foot house – four refrigerators, a double electric oven, a sump pump, a washer, a gas dryer and a dishwasher. Four pieces of cold storage is the most on any survey on the site, and it changes what a long outage costs: the bill is measured in what has to be thrown away afterwards, and it lands whether anyone is home or not. Two conditions were agreed in advance – a holly bush removed from in front of the electric meter, and the ground levelled where the generator would sit. Annual maintenance, an extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage all sit behind it.

Standby generator questions from Manahawkin homeowners
Can a generator be installed in a flood zone in Manahawkin?
Yes, but the generator and its electrical equipment may need to be elevated or otherwise protected. The installation is evaluated against the property's FEMA flood zone, its Base Flood Elevation and Design Flood Elevation, the municipal flood ordinance, any applicable freeboard, and NJDEP requirements where they apply. It is a property-by-property assessment rather than a rule of thumb.
Does new gas piping have to be pressure tested in Manahawkin?
Yes. Gas piping subject to the adopted fuel-gas code must be inspected and tested before it is accepted. New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code, which governs the inspection, the test pressure and how long the test has to hold.
Will a 22 kW generator run an entire Manahawkin house?
For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.
