Ginny in Belmar has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2013. The generator here was installed by another company that January and the servicing came to us six months later. In July 2025 we cleaned the back of the property as well.
A generator that is not a Generac
Most of the standby machines on these pages are Generacs. This one is a Honeywell 20 kW, model 0060431, and it is worth saying plainly that we service it on the same terms as everything else.
That matters more than brand loyalty makes it sound. A household that inherited a machine when they bought the house, or chose a different make a decade ago, is often told the sensible thing to do is replace it. Usually it is not. A well built standby generator of any make will run for a very long time on scheduled maintenance, and the argument for replacing one is that parts have genuinely become unobtainable, not that it carries the wrong badge.
This one is on PowerBase Platinum, our most complete plan, and it was last serviced on 2 June 2026 — thirteen years after somebody else commissioned it.
Deck, pool area and pergola
On 9 July 2025 we soft washed 2,482 square feet at the back of the property: the deck, the area around the pool and the pergola.
Wood is the surface where the case against pressure washing is easiest to see. Timber is soft, and it is softer still where it has weathered. Water driven hard enough to strip the grey off will also raise the grain, tear out the softer growth rings and leave a furred surface that holds dirt faster than the one it replaced — and the damage does not look like damage until the deck has dried.
Soft washing avoids all of that by doing the work chemically. A sodium hypochlorite and surfactant solution is applied at low pressure, left to kill the algae and mildew living in the timber, and rinsed away. Nothing is scoured, nothing is eroded, and the surface that comes back is the one that was always under the green.

Green Sun Energy Services replied
Thank you. A deck, pool surround and pergola in Belmar are exactly where soft washing earns its name: low pressure, the right solution, and nothing forced into the timber. You have been with us since 2013 on the generator side as well, which makes this the second thing we look after at the house.
Questions from Belmar homeowners
Standby generatorWhat size standby generator does a Belmar home need?
The correct size is decided by the electrical loads the generator is expected to run, not by the square footage of the house. Central air, heat pumps, electric heat, well and sump pumps, refrigerators and freezers, electric ranges and dryers, pool equipment and EV chargers all count. Where a load is connected automatically, the generator either has the capacity for it or an approved load-management system controls it.
Soft washingShould concrete be soft washed or pressure washed?
Usually both: cleaning chemistry first to loosen the organic growth, then controlled pressure to lift what is embedded in the porous surface. Pretreating means the pressure does not have to do all the work, which matters because concrete that is weak, deteriorated, decorative or relatively new can still be etched or marked.
Standby generatorIs a standby generator the same as a portable one?
No. A home standby generator is permanently installed and automatically connected to the home's electrical and fuel systems. A portable normally has to be placed, fuelled, started and connected by hand each time, using approved connection equipment. The standby machine is designed as an integrated backup-power system rather than as something you fetch out of the garage.
