A Generac 24 kW standby generator service plan:
Rachel in Ocean Township has a Generac 7000 Series 24 kW standby generator — rated 21 kW on natural gas — that was originally installed in October of 2022, not by Green Sun. In August of 2026, Rachel brought Green Sun Energy Services on to look after it going forward.
The generator runs on natural gas and is connected through a 100-amp transfer switch in a managed whole-house arrangement. That setup means the transfer switch monitors the home’s total load while the generator is running and automatically sheds lower-priority circuits if demand climbs toward the unit’s capacity — so the generator keeps the house running without the homeowner having to decide what to turn off. The Generac 7209 includes Wi-Fi connectivity, which allows remote monitoring so the generator’s status can be checked and any alerts caught without someone having to walk outside.
Green Sun now services the generator on an annual maintenance schedule, carries an extended parts-and-labor warranty on the unit, and handles remote monitoring. The first service visit under this plan was scheduled following the booking in August of 2026.

Standby generator questions from Ocean homeowners
Can the existing natural-gas service in a Ocean home supply a generator?
Often yes, but the gas system has to be evaluated first. The review covers the generator's BTU demand, meter capacity, available pressure, regulator capacity, pipe diameter and length, and every other gas appliance in the house -- furnace, boiler, water heater, range and fireplace among them.
How can a whole house be carried on a smaller electrical service?
Through load management. One or more large loads are controlled so they do not start at the same moment, or shut down briefly if generator demand climbs too high. That is what allows whole-house coverage where the raw sum of every connected load would otherwise exceed the machine.
What should we do if it runs for more than a day?
Continuous running for twenty-four hours or more deserves attention. The manufacturer's continuous-use guidance covers a proper shutdown, an oil-level check, a leak inspection and maintenance based on the hours accumulated. Follow the safe shutdown procedure rather than opening or servicing a machine that is running.
