East, south and west, seven each
Twenty-one panels went onto this roof in three groups of seven — one facing east, one south, one west. The symmetry is not decorative, although on a roof this steep and this visible from the street it does no harm that the layout reads as deliberate rather than as whatever fitted.
What the three aspects buy is a flatter production curve. A single south-facing array produces a sharp peak in the middle of the day and very little at either end of it. Spread the same twenty-one panels east, south and west and the east group starts producing early, the south group carries the middle of the day, and the west group is still working into the evening — which is when a household is actually home and using power.
The three faces are genuinely different from one another. The east group sits at a 40-degree pitch with one percent shading. The south group is steeper still at 50 degrees, with five percent. The west group, on the front of the house, carries 20 percent shading and runs at about two-thirds of what an unobstructed face would do.
That last figure is the reason the equipment matters. Each panel has its own SolarEdge optimizer feeding an SE7600H HD Wave inverter, so the shaded west group performs to its own conditions rather than dragging the other fourteen panels down with it. On a conventional string system, mixing a shaded west face with a clean east one is exactly the arrangement you are told to avoid.
The array is 7.56 kW of Hanwha 360-watt panels on Snap-N-Rack mounting. Estimated first-year production is 8,571 kWh, the utility is JCP&L, and it was commissioned on 21 June 2022.
5,900 square feet washed in April
On 17 April 2026 we soft washed 5,900 square feet of the exterior. The work is done by the solution rather than by pressure: a sodium hypochlorite and surfactant mix goes on at low pressure, is left to kill the algae and mildew growing on the surface, and is rinsed away. Force on its own lifts the staining and leaves the growth rooted where it is, so it comes back within a season.
