Solar Panel Installation, Standby Generator Installation and Standby Generator Service in Little Egg Harbor, NJ by Green Sun Energy Services.
John and Charlotte Stewart have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since March of 2016, when they bought a solar array and a standby generator in the same conversation. The two installations finished a day apart at the end of May.
24 panels and 7.2 kW
Twenty-four LG 300 watt panels came to 7.2 kW on QuickMount flashed mounts, with a SolarEdge SE6000A inverter and a power optimizer on every panel. An optimizer handles each panel’s output on its own, so one shaded or underperforming panel does not set the pace for the rest of the string. Atlantic City Electric is the utility and the first year was estimated at 9,795 kWh. The array was finished on 26 May 2016.
A 16 kW standby, sized by the load calculation
The house is about 1,600 square feet on a 200-amp service. Run through NEC Article 220 Part IV, the connected load came to 21,028 watts, of which heating and cooling account for 6,000. Load management sheds that 6,000 while the generator is carrying the house, which brings what the machine actually has to meet down to 9,028 watts against a 9 kW minimum. The 16 kW Generac in an aluminum enclosure covers it with margin, and it runs on natural gas, so there is no tank to keep an eye on. The transfer switch is a 200-amp service-entrance type mounted outdoors beside the meter, which keeps the whole house behind one switch rather than splitting the panel into essential circuits. It was finished on 27 May 2016 and we were back to service it in April 2026.
A day apart, and two different jobs
Solar and standby power are bought together often enough that they get described as one purchase. They are not. The array works when the sun is up and the grid is up, and it changes what the house draws from Atlantic City Electric across the year. The generator does nothing at all until the grid fails, and then it carries the house. Buying both in one conversation, as this household did, means one design, one permit set, one inspection schedule, and one company answering for both of them afterwards.

"Charlotte and I highly recommend Green Sun for your Solar and back-up generator needs. Yes, they delivered what they said, follow-up on every question or need we had but also went further. My wife was not in favor of "unsightly" solar panels but Glen came up with the LG all black panels and moved vents on our roof to allow one perfect square to be set. Green Sun was also able to build a Generac generator into our package and we are still making money. They are a family business that provides personalized service. Great Job Glen and Team!" - John and Charlotte from Little Egg Harbor, NJ. Solar Review Source: Google
Green Sun Energy Services replied
Thank you. Solar and a standby generator installed a day apart at the same house in Little Egg Harbor is a compressed schedule and takes real coordination. How an array looks is a legitimate objection and one we take seriously in the layout rather than argue with. Glad the finished result won the argument for us.
Questions from Little Egg Harbor homeowners
Standby generatorCan a generator be installed in a flood zone in Little Egg Harbor?
Yes, but the generator and its electrical equipment may need to be elevated or otherwise protected. The installation is evaluated against the property's FEMA flood zone, its Base Flood Elevation and Design Flood Elevation, the municipal flood ordinance, any applicable freeboard, and NJDEP requirements where they apply. It is a property-by-property assessment rather than a rule of thumb.
SolarCan the system be switched on before the utility approves it?
A grid-connected system should not be placed into normal parallel operation until the utility has issued the required authorisation. Running it beforehand can breach the interconnection agreement and the utility's requirements.
Standby generatorCan a standby generator run central air conditioning?
Yes, when it is sized for it. The design has to account for both the running demand and the starting surge of the air-conditioning equipment. Load-management equipment can be used where necessary so that demand does not all arrive at once.
