Gina from Hazlet, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since March of 2016. Twenty-eight LG 300-watt panels went on the roof that May – 8.4 kW in all, estimated at 10,352 kWh in the first year – on a QuickMount rail-free system. All-black modules on a low-profile mount, and six weeks from booking to a working array.

Solar questions from Hazlet homeowners
How does residential solar work on a Hazlet home?
The panels convert sunlight into direct-current electricity, and an inverter or microinverters convert that into alternating current the house can use. When the array produces more than the house is drawing, the surplus flows out through the utility meter under New Jersey's net-metering rules. When the house needs more than the array is making, the difference comes from the utility.
What is Permission to Operate?
It is the utility's authorisation for the finished system to run in parallel with the grid. Completing the installation does not by itself mean the system can be switched on: the utility generally requires the interconnection documentation, the inspections, the metering and the final approvals to be in place first.
What is a microinverter and why use one per panel?
A microinverter is a small inverter installed at or near an individual module, so each panel converts on its own channel. That gives module-level visibility and limits the effect one underperforming panel has on the others around it.
