Should trees be cut down before installing solar?
Only where the production benefit justifies it and doing so is legally and environmentally appropriate. A good installer quantifies what a particular tree costs in production rather than recommending removal as a matter of course. Ownership of the tree, municipal tree ordinances, neighbors' trees and regrowth all come into it.
Are north-facing panels a bad idea?
They generally produce less annual energy in New Jersey than comparable south-facing panels, but they are not automatically unusable. Roof pitch, shading, the economics and the space available all matter, and a production model should show the expected output before north-facing modules go into a design.
Do unused credits carry from month to month?
Yes. Eligible excess kWh credits generally carry through the customer's annualised net-metering period, which is what allows strong spring and summer production to offset consumption in the darker months.
