Zep was the rail-free system of its day: the panels clip to one another and to a small number of roof anchors, which meant fewer penetrations through the shingles than a railed array of the same size.

How does residential solar work on a Howell home?

The panels convert sunlight into direct-current electricity, and an inverter or microinverters convert that into alternating current the house can use. When the array produces more than the house is drawing, the surplus flows out through the utility meter under New Jersey's net-metering rules. How much electricity does one panel produce?

A module's wattage rating is measured under standardised test conditions and is not annual energy.
