Solar questions from Jackson homeowners
Can the system be switched on before the utility approves it?
A grid-connected system should not be placed into normal parallel operation until the utility has issued the required authorisation. Running it beforehand can breach the interconnection agreement and the utility's requirements.
What is panel efficiency?
How effectively a module turns the sunlight striking its surface into electrical power. Higher efficiency fits more generating capacity into a limited area, which matters most on houses where the usable roof is the constraint rather than the budget.
How does residential solar work on a Jackson home?
The panels convert sunlight into direct-current electricity, and an inverter or microinverters convert that into alternating current the house can use. When the array produces more than the house is drawing, the surplus flows out through the utility meter under New Jersey's net-metering rules.
