Alice and Frank from Hazlet, NJ have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since February of 2018. Two jobs booked together and installed five weeks apart.
A 16 kW standby generator
Commissioned in March of 2018, on natural gas, behind a 200-amp transfer switch covering the whole service. The load survey put the house at 1,877 square feet.
8.375 kW of solar
Twenty-five LG 335N1C-A5 panels followed in April, on Ecolibrium mounting with a SolarEdge inverter. The design estimate is 11,049 kWh in the first year.
344 feet of critter guard
Three hundred and forty-four feet is a long run for a twenty-five panel array, and it says something the kW figure does not: guard footage tracks the perimeter of the array rather than its output, so a system split across several roof planes takes far more of it than a single unbroken block of the same size.
Hazlet sits close enough to the bay for outages to be a seasonal expectation rather than a surprise, which is the usual reason a house here ends up with both an array and a machine rather than choosing between them.

Everyone should consider both. Glenn, Karen,Chris & there Team are 100% with you from beginning to the End.
Green Sun Energy Services replied
Thank you. Ten seconds is what a standby generator is supposed to do and rarely gets credit for. Having solar as well means the two systems cover opposite problems: the array works while the grid is up, and the generator only matters when it is not. Glad both have made an impression so quickly.
Questions from Hazlet homeowners
Standby generatorWill a 22 kW generator run an entire Hazlet house?
For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.
SolarHow does an optimizer system differ from microinverters?
An optimizer system puts DC power optimizers at the modules and a single central inverter elsewhere; a microinverter system puts a small inverter at each module. Both can provide module-level monitoring and rapid shutdown when properly designed -- they are different architectures rather than one being the upgrade of the other.
Standby generatorShould gas pressure be checked while the generator is running?
Yes. Operating pressure means more than a static reading taken with the generator off. The fuel system has to hold adequate pressure while the generator runs and other appliances may also be drawing gas. That matters most when an existing residential service is being reused.
