Standby Generator Installation in Lincroft, NJ | 26 kW Generac with 400-Amp Smart Transfer Switch

Lincroft, NJ · Client since September 2026

Completed in September of 2026, Green Sun Energy Services installed a Generac standby generator system at a 3,500-square-foot residence in Lincroft, Monmouth County, NJ. The home is served by JCPL, and the owner wanted backup coverage for the entire house without manually shedding loads during an outage.

A 26 kW (LP) / 24 kW (NG) Generac standby generator

The centerpiece of the installation is a Generac 26 kW air-cooled standby generator (Model 7327), running on natural gas. It carries Generac’s built-in cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity, which allows remote monitoring of the unit’s status and runtime through Generac’s Mobile Link platform. The generator sits on a 5,000 PSI precast concrete pad — 54 inches by 32 inches and 190 pounds — providing a stable, level surface that meets code and keeps the unit clear of ground moisture.

The electrical side of the installation centers on a Generac 400-amp automatic smart transfer switch with power management, configured as a service disconnect. This switch detects a grid outage and starts the generator automatically, transferring the house loads without any action from the homeowner. Because the home carries a 400-amp electrical service, the transfer switch was matched at 400 amps to handle the full service capacity.

Three load management modules were added to the system. Each module controls a 60-amp device — such as a central air conditioner, an electric water heater, or another large appliance — and the Generac Smart Controller sequences those loads automatically so the generator is never asked to start more large draws simultaneously than it can carry. The result is managed whole-house coverage: every circuit in the house is available, and the system handles the sequencing rather than requiring the homeowner to choose what to sacrifice during an outage.

A 12-volt start battery, included with the package, ensures the generator can crank reliably after sitting idle. A PSP service-entrance-rated surge protector, rated at 100,000 surge amps, was installed at the new service main and carries a lifetime warranty along with downstream protection coverage. This protector guards the home’s equipment from voltage spikes that can arrive through the utility feed — a real risk when power is restored after an outage.

The rough-in electrical work in the trench was completed prior to the generator installation, and the electrical and plumbing runs each extended up to 20 feet. Grounding was addressed with #2 AWG green-jacket copper wire run from the water main to the service entrance main, meeting the bonding requirements for the upgraded service.

A generator service plan for the Lincroft home

After the generator installation wrapped up in September 2026, Daniel added a PowerBase service plan to keep the system running reliably between uses. The plan covers annual maintenance visits and includes an extended parts-and-labor warranty, so if a covered component fails, the repair cost is not on Daniel to absorb out of pocket.

Standby generators sit idle for long stretches and are expected to perform instantly when the grid fails. Routine professional maintenance — checking fluid levels, exercising the unit, inspecting connections and the battery — catches small issues before they become outage-day problems. With the service plan in place, that work is scheduled and handled by Green Sun rather than left to chance.

Standby generator questions from Lincroft homeowners

What does the automatic transfer switch do?

It moves the home's electrical supply between the utility and the generator. That is what lets the system work automatically, and it is also what prevents the house being connected to both sources at once. It is the piece that makes the rest safe.

Can we build an enclosure around the generator?

A secondary enclosure should not be added unless the finished installation still complies with the manufacturer's requirements. Restricting the machine can reduce cooling airflow, trap heat, recirculate exhaust, block service access and create unsafe carbon-monoxide conditions. The factory enclosure is already engineered as part of the generator.

Will a 26 kW generator run an entire Lincroft house?

For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.
