Jonathan from Springfield, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since September of 2020. The machine is a Generac 7178 rated 16 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp transfer switch, and it was commissioned in June of 2021. At about 1,800 square feet the house sits well inside what a 16 kW machine carries, so the 200-amp switch transfers the whole panel rather than a chosen few circuits. Green Sun has serviced it every year since – May of 2022, May of 2023, June of 2024, March of 2025 and March of 2026.

Standby generator questions from Springfield homeowners
Can a generator be installed in a flood zone in Springfield?
Yes, but the generator and its electrical equipment may need to be elevated or otherwise protected. The installation is evaluated against the property's FEMA flood zone, its Base Flood Elevation and Design Flood Elevation, the municipal flood ordinance, any applicable freeboard, and NJDEP requirements where they apply. It is a property-by-property assessment rather than a rule of thumb.
Can the generator stay connected during a pressure test?
The machine has to be protected from test pressures beyond what its fuel controls are built to withstand. The fuel-gas code sets out when appliances are disconnected or isolated for testing, and the plumbing contractor follows both that code and the generator's installation instructions.
Can a generator be raised on a platform?
Yes. Manufacturer guidance specifically covers installations on platforms and other supporting structures, and directs them to the applicable fire-safety standard, including a noncombustible surface extending beyond the generator for the configuration addressed. Flood and structural requirements have to be satisfied as well.
