Cedric from Atlantic Highlands, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since November of 2019. The Generac 7042 at the house is a 22 kW machine on natural gas, feeding a 100-amp transfer switch. It was put in by another company. Green Sun’s first visit was in November of 2019 and it has looked after the machine since, returning in February of 2022 and January of 2025. Taking on a machine somebody else installed means checking the gas pressure, the transfer switch and the exercise settings against what the manufacturer asks for, rather than assuming the last company did.

Can the platform height be read off the FEMA flood map?
Not necessarily. The map matters, but it may not carry every elevation the platform design needs. An Elevation Certificate, a surveyed ground elevation, the Base Flood Elevation, the Design Flood Elevation, the local freeboard and the municipal flood ordinance can all bear on it, so the height is calculated for the specific property.
Will a larger gas meter be needed?
Possibly. A generator can significantly increase a home's maximum gas demand. If the existing meter or service cannot hold the required pressure while supplying the generator and the other appliances together, the gas utility may require an upgrade.
Will a 22 kW generator run an entire Atlantic Highlands house?
For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.
