Joseph from Oceanport, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since April of 2017. The 14 kW standby generator at the house was installed by another company in January of 2013, and four years later Joseph moved its servicing to us. We started with a startup inspection, the visit we run on any machine we did not install ourselves, and then worked through every scheduled interval from the two-year service to the ten-year, the most recent completed in October of 2025. The hour meter read 183 hours at that visit. Oceanport sits low against the Shrewsbury River, where a storm surge takes the power out before the wind does, and a 14 kW machine on a whole-house switch is what keeps a pump running when that happens.
Why Joseph chose Green Sun Energy Services

Standby generator questions from Oceanport homeowners
Can the generator share a propane tank with the furnace?
Potentially, if the tank, the regulators and the piping can supply the combined demand of the generator and every other appliance that might run at the same time. It is the whole connected load that has to be considered, not the generator on its own.
Will a 14 kW generator run an entire Oceanport house?
For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.
How is the gas pipe size worked out?
From the generator's demand, the available pressure, the pipe length, the allowable pressure drop, the fittings, the pipe material and every other appliance connected to the system. The adopted fuel-gas code carries the sizing requirements and tables, and the model's published fuel consumption goes into the calculation.
