Three Generator Services in Colts Neck, NJ

Colts Neck, NJ · Client since January 2020

Charles from Colts Neck, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since January of 2020. The generator was installed by another company and commissioned in November of 2011, and the servicing came to us eight years later. We ran the five-year service in January of 2020, the six-year service in January of 2021 and the seven-year service that December. The interval names lag the calendar on a machine like this because they track running hours rather than birthdays – a generator that has spent a decade waiting quietly for an outage has far fewer hours on it than its age suggests, and the service schedule follows the hours.

Standby generator questions from Colts Neck homeowners

Can a generator be converted from propane to natural gas later?

Many air-cooled models can be configured for either fuel, but the conversion has to follow the exact procedure for that model. The new natural-gas supply then has to be properly sized and pressure-tested for the generator before it is put into service.

Why do outages last longer on some Colts Neck streets than others?

Mature tree cover over overhead lines is the usual reason. Limbs coming down in wind, snow or ice take the lines with them, so heavily treed streets tend to see both more frequent outages and longer restoration times than open ones. It is one of the honest arguments for standby power rather than a portable generator.

Is the output the same on propane and natural gas?

Not necessarily. Many models are rated differently depending on fuel; a current 22 kW machine is rated 22 kW on LP and 21 kW on natural gas. The model-specific ratings should be compared before the generator is sized, not afterwards.
