Brian from Skillman, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since December of 2023. The generator was installed by another company and commissioned in September of 2021, and the servicing came to us two years later. Scheduled maintenance has followed without a gap – December of 2023, October of 2024 and October of 2025. Two years is an early point to take a machine on, and it is the best one: nothing has been neglected yet, so the record starts clean rather than with a list of things to put right first. An annual maintenance plan covers the yearly visit.

Standby generator questions from Skillman homeowners
Can it start during a brownout when the power is not fully off?
Yes. The controller monitors whether the utility supply is acceptable, not merely whether voltage is present, so it can start while some lights and appliances still appear to be working. That is usually the explanation when a generator runs during severe utility-voltage problems.
Does a generator produce less on natural gas than on propane?
Some models do have a lower rated maximum output on natural gas than on propane -- a current 22 kW machine is rated 22 kW on LP and 21 kW on natural gas. Other models carry their own ratings, so the model-specific specification sheet is what settles it rather than a general rule.
Can Skillman require a generator to sit farther from the house than the manufacturer does?
Yes. Another applicable requirement can result in greater separation than the manufacturer's listed minimum -- equipment may be permitted eighteen inches from a qualifying wall while the local ordinance requires several feet from a property line. Both requirements have to be satisfied; neither cancels the other.
