We ran the five-year service in August of 2020 and the six-year service in August of 2021. Both were timed for late summer, which is the sensible window in this part of Ocean County – far enough past the spring storms to have caught anything they caused, and comfortably ahead of the stretch from September onward when the machine is most likely to be asked to prove itself.

Can a generator be converted from propane to natural gas later?
Many air-cooled models can be configured for either fuel, but the conversion has to follow the exact procedure for that model. The new natural-gas supply then has to be properly sized and pressure-tested for the generator before it is put into service.
Can the generator stay connected during a pressure test?
The machine has to be protected from test pressures beyond what its fuel controls are built to withstand. The fuel-gas code sets out when appliances are disconnected or isolated for testing, and the plumbing contractor follows both that code and the generator's installation instructions.
Can a standby generator run central air conditioning?
Yes, when it is sized for it. The design has to account for both the running demand and the starting surge of the air-conditioning equipment. Load-management equipment can be used where necessary so that demand does not all arrive at once.
