Chris from Freehold, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2020. He signed in early October and the generator was commissioned the following June, eight months, which was the shape of that year rather than anything unusual about the job. It is a 20 kW Generac on a pad with a 200-amp service-rated transfer switch and two management modules so the air conditioning and the other large draws do not collide. A Generac service contract has covered it since. Freehold is in Monmouth County.

Very nice, efficient
Green Sun Energy Services replied
Thank you, Chris. Efficient is what we aim for. A generator installation in Freehold takes gas work, electrical work and township inspections, and the whole point of running all of it ourselves is that none of it lands on the homeowner. The machine has been on an annual service plan since it went in, so it stays ready between outages rather than only during one.
Standby generator questions from Freehold homeowners
Do generator requirements in Freehold differ from the next town over?
The manufacturer's equipment requirements do not change when you cross a municipal boundary into Freehold, but local zoning can. A township may impose its own side-yard and rear-yard setbacks, mechanical-equipment rules, screening, noise requirements and floodplain provisions. That is why every property gets a municipal zoning review rather than a general answer.
What is a sediment trap for?
It helps stop foreign material in the gas line from reaching the generator's fuel controls. Where the fuel-gas code and the system configuration call for one, it is fitted, and the maintenance schedule includes inspecting or cleaning it.
Can a generator be installed on a deck or a roof?
Platform, deck and supporting-structure installations are recognized, but they call for additional review: structural capacity, noncombustible surface requirements, fire clearance, exhaust, airflow, vibration, service access and local requirements all have to be addressed. It is a site-specific installation rather than a routine location.
