Standby Generator Installation and Soft Washing in Holmdel, NJ | 22 kW Generac

Holmdel, NJ · Client since October 2020

Joe in Holmdel has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2020. The standby generator was commissioned in February 2021 and we soft washed the house in April 2026.

Six hundred watts of margin

This is a 4,800 square foot house, and its electrical calculation comes to 24,888 watts. Two three-ton air conditioners account for 6,000 of that and are managed, which brings the figure the generator has to hold to 18,888 watts.

The machine is a Generac Guardian 22 kW home standby, model 7043-2, and it delivers 19.5 kW on natural gas, which is what this house runs on. So the number it carries and the number it makes are about six hundred watts apart.

That is a deliberate result rather than a lucky one. The NEC calculation for this property asks for a minimum of 19 kW on natural gas, and the machine clears it — but not by much, and not by accident: the transfer switch carries three management modules, two rated at 50 amps and one at 100, and without them there is no version of this house that a 22 kW generator covers.

What that buys is a house where nothing visible changes during an outage. Two sump pumps, two refrigerators, the pool filter, the electric dryer, the dishwasher, the microwave, the washer, the garage door and two gas furnaces all keep running. The air conditioning is the only thing asked to wait, and only while something heavier is drawing.

The transfer switch is service-rated at 200 amps and stands outdoors beside the meter. The generator was commissioned on 23 February 2021 and was last serviced on 11 August 2026.

6,942 square feet washed in April

On 27 April 2026 we soft washed 6,942 square feet of exterior. The work is done by the solution rather than by force: a sodium hypochlorite and surfactant mix applied at low pressure, left to kill the algae and mildew growing on the surface, then rinsed off. Pressure alone strips the staining and leaves the growth rooted in place, so it returns within a season.

great service and great price. Glenn and his entire team were very easy to work with

Questions from Holmdel homeowners

Standby generatorWhat does a whole-house generator actually mean?

Whole-house generally means the transfer equipment serves the home's main electrical system rather than a small emergency-circuit panel. It does not promise unlimited capacity. High-demand appliances may still be prioritized or briefly shed while generator capacity is being used elsewhere.

Standby generatorDoes a generator keep the well running during an outage in Holmdel?

Yes, when the well pump is included in the design. A private well pump is electric, so without power there is no running water at all -- a different order of problem from losing the lights. Homes on a well are among the clearest cases for standby power, and the pump belongs on the load list from the start.

Standby generatorHow much space is needed at the ends of the generator?

Applicable air-cooled installation instructions commonly require about three feet at the ends. That space protects cooling airflow, exhaust operation and the access a technician needs to work on the machine. The model-specific manual controls.

Soft washingCan pressure washing damage stone?

Yes. Softer or deteriorated stone and mortar can erode under excessive pressure. Cleaning should be adapted to the material rather than assuming all masonry can tolerate high pressure.

Soft washingWhat does ARMA recommend for cleaning roof algae?

ARMA recommends a chemical cleaning approach followed by a gentle water rinse rather than pressure washing. Its published guidance describes a bleach-and-water solution for algae discoloration and specifically says not to use a power washer, brush or broom on asphalt roofing. The shingle manufacturer's instructions should always be checked.
