Nick from Colonia, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since December of 2014. He and Wendy signed on New Year Eve and the array was producing by the end of June, 32 LG 300 watt panels on Enphase M250 microinverters with QuickMount racking. At 9.6 kW it was designed for about 12,068 kWh a year. Colonia is in Middlesex County.

Solar questions from Colonia homeowners
How much electricity does one panel produce?
There is no single figure, because annual production depends on where and how the panel is installed. A module's wattage rating is measured under standardised test conditions and is not annual energy. Actual kWh follows from wattage, orientation, tilt, shade, the inverter, the weather, temperature and system losses.
What is the difference between kW and kWh?
kW measures the size of the system; kWh measures the electricity it produces or the house consumes over time. An 11.5 kW array might be estimated at 13,100 kWh in its first year. Confusing the two makes proposals look larger or smaller than they are.
What is hosting capacity, and can it affect a Colonia property?
Hosting capacity is how much distributed generation a part of the grid can take without affecting safety or reliability. A neighborhood with a lot of existing solar can face interconnection limits even where the individual property is ideal for it -- which is why the utility review is not a formality.
