Live on 6 July 2011: 28 Canadian Solar 235-watt modules on Enphase dual microinverters, rail-free mounting, estimated at 6,340 kilowatt hours in the first year. It is worth saying what those numbers meant at the time. A 235-watt panel produces roughly half what a current module of the same size does, and the microinverters were early-generation – one unit serving two panels rather than one apiece. The array is still up and still producing, which is the only test of a solar installation that really counts: not what it made in year one, but whether anybody has had to think about it since.

A Generac on a managed whole-house switch

November of 2020. The calculation asked for a minimum of 18 kW under NEC Article 220 Part IV, which is a high number for 2,576 square feet, and the load survey explains it: a double electric oven, an electric dryer, two refrigerators, a separate freezer, a dishwasher and a sump pump. Electric cooking and electric drying under one roof is the combination that drives generator sizing hardest, because either one alone can rival everything else in the house put together. A Generac rated 19.5 kW on natural gas went in – 22 kW on propane – behind a 200-amp managed whole-house transfer switch with two smart management modules and whole-house surge protection.

A ChargePoint on a 60-amp circuit

October of 2023, by which point the numbers had grown tight. With a car charger included, the calculated minimum service came to 169.98 amps against a 200-amp panel – inside the rating, but not by the margin most people imagine they have. The charger went in hardwired on a 60-amp breaker at 11.5 kW, roughly 36 miles of range an hour, with a 100-amp management module.

Holiday lighting for the roof and columns

In the fall of 2025, commercial-grade C9 diamond-faceted LED bulbs went up across the roofline — 232 of them, red and white, on 12-inch spacing. The lights are shatterproof and removed after the New Year, so nothing is left on the house through the winter months when ice and wind do their work.

The columns got a lighted deluxe Colorado Pine garland in place of a plain wrap, and a 36-inch wreath was included in the installation. All of it was supplied by Green Sun, hung by Green Sun, and will come down the same way.

A soft wash for the house, decks and fence

In April of 2025, Green Sun soft washed the house along with the front walkway, the back deck and stairs, the patio beneath the deck, the pool deck, and the wood fence around the pool — 6,784 square feet of surface in total. The cleaning agent was a sodium hypochlorite and surfactant based formula, which is the standard for low-pressure biological cleaning: it kills the algae, mold and mildew at the root rather than blasting them off and leaving the spores behind.

Soft washing matters to a roof and siding because algae and mold hold moisture against surfaces that are designed to shed it. Left in place, that biological growth shortens the life of shingles and degrades painted or composite siding over time. Clearing it from the full exterior — not just the roof, but the walkways, decks and fence as well — removes the source rather than managing the symptom.

Five trades, one address

Solar went up in 2011. A generator followed in 2020. A car charger came in 2023. Holiday lighting was installed in 2025. A soft wash covered the house, decks and fence the same year. Every one of those jobs was done at the same address, served by the same 200-amp panel, and every electrical addition was sized against what was already there before a wire was touched.

That is the shape of a house that has grown with its trades rather than in spite of them. Nothing here has needed a service upgrade — but that was a conclusion reached carefully each time, not a given. The soft wash sits outside the electrical story entirely, but it belongs to the same principle: work done with attention to the whole house, not just the job on the invoice.
