Michael from Farmingdale, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since December of 2018. He and Lulu signed on the first of December and the generator was commissioned in early February, a 16 kW Generac on its own pad behind a 200-amp service-rated switch, with whole-home surge protection fitted at the same time. It covers 2,764 square feet with a refrigerator, an electric oven, a dishwasher and the laundry. A PowerBase plan has kept it serviced since. Farmingdale is in Monmouth County.
Why Michael chose Green Sun Energy Services

Standby generator questions from Farmingdale homeowners
Can a standby generator run central air conditioning?
Yes, when it is sized for it. The design has to account for both the running demand and the starting surge of the air-conditioning equipment. Load-management equipment can be used where necessary so that demand does not all arrive at once.
Why do outages last longer on some Farmingdale streets than others?
Mature tree cover over overhead lines is the usual reason. Limbs coming down in wind, snow or ice take the lines with them, so heavily treed streets tend to see both more frequent outages and longer restoration times than open ones. It is one of the honest arguments for standby power rather than a portable generator.
Can Farmingdale require a generator to sit farther from the house than the manufacturer does?
Yes. Another applicable requirement can result in greater separation than the manufacturer's listed minimum -- equipment may be permitted eighteen inches from a qualifying wall while the local ordinance requires several feet from a property line. Both requirements have to be satisfied; neither cancels the other.
