Roof First, Then 8.96 kW of Solar in Piscataway

Tara from Piscataway, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since February of 2017. The roof was done first, in April of that year: a single layer of old shingles stripped to the sheathing, all of it hauled away, and 3,000 square feet of new composition shingle in charcoal laid in its place with a 50-year warranty. Every roof we do is a complete tear-off, never a second layer over an old one, and the reason is plainest on a job like this – the array went on a week later. Bolting 28 panels onto shingles with years left to run is how a homeowner ends up paying twice, once for the roof and again to take the solar off and put it back. The array came to 8.96 kW with a SolarEdge inverter and optimizers, estimated at 11,133 kilowatt hours in the first year, and was interconnected with PSEG that May.
