14 kW Standby Generator Installation in Tinton Falls, NJ | Generac Generator

Tinton Falls, NJ · Client since January 2023

Brian from Tinton Falls, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since January of 2023. The generator was commissioned in March: 14 kW on natural gas, on a 100-amp service-entrance switch with a smart management module and surge protection. The load calculation asked for 11 kW across the 1,450 square foot house, so the machine sits comfortably above the requirement even on a smaller service. A modest house on a 100-amp panel is the case where whole-house coverage is most achievable and least often attempted – the total demand is low enough that one management module is all it takes to keep everything on rather than nominating circuits. The generator is supported by annual maintenance, a seven-year extended parts-and-labor warranty, and monitoring we manage.

Standby generator questions from Tinton Falls homeowners

Does a generator produce less on natural gas than on propane?

Some models do have a lower rated maximum output on natural gas than on propane -- a current 22 kW machine is rated 22 kW on LP and 21 kW on natural gas. Other models carry their own ratings, so the model-specific specification sheet is what settles it rather than a general rule.

Can a generator be installed on a deck or a roof?

Platform, deck and supporting-structure installations are recognized, but they call for additional review: structural capacity, noncombustible surface requirements, fire clearance, exhaust, airflow, vibration, service access and local requirements all have to be addressed. It is a site-specific installation rather than a routine location.

Can a generator be installed in a flood zone in Tinton Falls?

Yes, but the generator and its electrical equipment may need to be elevated or otherwise protected. The installation is evaluated against the property's FEMA flood zone, its Base Flood Elevation and Design Flood Elevation, the municipal flood ordinance, any applicable freeboard, and NJDEP requirements where they apply. It is a property-by-property assessment rather than a rule of thumb.
