The generator was commissioned in November: 16 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp managed whole-house switch with a smart management module and surge protection, sized against a 13 kW calculation for the 1,974 square foot house. A double electric oven is most of the reason a house that size needs that much – two elements drawing together approach the demand of everything else combined. A refrigerator, a separate freezer, a washer, a gas dryer and a dishwasher complete the load, so the machine carries a comfortable margin over what the calculation required. Annual maintenance, a ten-year extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage all sit behind it.

Will a 22 kW generator run an entire Farmingdale house?

For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.

Can a generator be converted from propane to natural gas later?

Many air-cooled models can be configured for either fuel, but the conversion has to follow the exact procedure for that model. The new natural-gas supply then has to be properly sized and pressure-tested for the generator before it is put into service.
