Martha from Spring Lake, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since June of 2023. The generator was commissioned that September, rated 19.5 kW on natural gas against a load calculation asking for 16 kW. An electric dryer accounts for a good part of the gap – it draws several times what a gas one does, and a load survey counts what is in the house rather than its floor area. Two load-management modules and a surge protective device went in with the machine, which carries the whole 2,800 square feet on a 200-amp service rather than a chosen set of circuits.

How much space does a generator need in front of it?
For applicable air-cooled installations, roughly three feet of unobstructed clearance at the front, for airflow and for servicing. Fences, shrubs and stored materials should not intrude into that space. Newer models should be checked against their own current manual.
Does a standby generator need a permit in Spring Lake?

Does the generator need its own gas shutoff?
