A 24 kW Generac taken on at three weeks old
The machine is a 24 kW Generac on natural gas, behind a managed whole-house transfer switch, and it was barely commissioned when its servicing moved to us in June of 2021. That is an unusual moment to take a generator on, and a revealing one: most takeovers happen at five or eight years, when the original installer has drifted away and something has started to matter. Taking one on new means the household was choosing who would look after it for the next twenty years rather than settling for whoever happened to sell it.
It has been on our Diamond plan since – annual maintenance, extended parts-and-labor cover and remote monitoring that Green Sun runs directly. The monitoring is the part that changes the experience of owning a standby generator: the machine reports its own condition rather than waiting for somebody to notice that the weekly exercise cycle has stopped happening. A generator that fails quietly in April is indistinguishable from a working one until the first storm in August.
266 red and white C9 bulbs
November of 2025, and a first season of holiday lighting. Two hundred and sixty-six C9 bulbs in red and white along the roofline – C9 being the large traditional bulb rather than the small modern one. Put up by us, taken down after the New Year by us, and stored for the following season, which is the half of the arrangement people tend to forget when they buy a box of lights: the January take-down is the job involving a ladder, cold gutters and no volunteers.
