Standby Generator Installation and Holiday Lighting in Millstone Township, NJ | 24 kW and 161 C7 Bulbs

Millstone Township, NJ · Client since April 2021

Edward from Millstone Township, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since April of 2021. The generator came first and the holiday lighting followed three winters later, on the same house and the same rooflines.

A 24 kW standby generator

The Generac was commissioned in April of 2021 and is rated 24 kW on propane and 21 kW on the natural gas it runs on here. The load survey came to 4,000 square feet, which is what puts it at the top of the air-cooled range, and a 200-amp automatic transfer switch backs the whole panel rather than a nominated handful of circuits.

161 C7 bulbs

The lighting went up in November of 2024 — 161 warm white C7 bulbs at 3000K, run along the windows. Commercial-grade C7 is a larger bulb than the C9 used on most roof lines, and warm white at 3000K reads closer to an incandescent than the blue-white an LED is often assumed to be.

Why Edward chose Green Sun Energy Services

Questions from Millstone Township homeowners

Standby generatorDo underground utilities have to be marked before the trench is dug?

Yes. Underground facilities must be addressed through the New Jersey One Call process before the excavation begins, which is what protects buried gas, electric, telecommunications and water lines from being struck.

Standby generatorWhat gas pressure does a generator need?

It is model-specific and has to be read off the specification sheet rather than assumed. A current 22 kW model, for instance, specifies a minimum natural-gas pressure of 3.5 inches water column. Different models carry different requirements.

Standby generatorWill a 24 kW generator run an entire Millstone Township house?

For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.

Holiday lightingWhen should a professional installation be booked?

Early. Capacity becomes limited as Thanksgiving approaches, and demand climbs sharply through October and November. Crews are finite and so are safe working hours, so the week before Christmas offers very little flexibility.

Holiday lightingWhich parts of a house should be decorated first?

The roofline, because it defines the architecture and carries furthest. After that, the primary peaks, the front entry, a wreath, the foundation shrubs, then any major trees and secondary features. A strong roofline with a few well-chosen landscape features looks more complete than lighting spread thinly over everything.
