Pushpa from Summit, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since February of 2025. A ChargePoint CPH50 went in that March on a dedicated 60-amp circuit, hardwired, delivering 11.5 kW – about 36 miles of range an hour. This one is the NACS version: the connector Tesla uses, now standardised as SAE J3400 and adopted by most other manufacturers for their newer cars. Choosing it means the charger on the wall matches the port on the car without an adapter, this car and probably the next one.

Does a home EV charger need an electrical permit in Summit?
A new permanently installed EV charging circuit generally requires an electrical permit and inspection under New Jersey's Uniform Construction Code. Where a utility rebate is involved, the programme may also want evidence that the permit was closed out properly.
Can a NACS charger charge a car that is not a Tesla?
It depends on the vehicle's connector and on which charger it is. A standard Tesla Wall Connector uses NACS. The Universal version carries an integrated J1772 adapter as well, which makes it the more flexible arrangement for a household running more than one brand, and many manufacturers are moving to NACS in any case.
What if my panel is Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or another older brand?
Older or problematic equipment may warrant replacement before adding a large continuous load. An electrician should inspect the panel condition, breaker availability, listing, service size, and safety history.
