Softwash Service
Roger from Hazlet, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since May of 2017. Thirty-nine Hanwha 290-watt panels went up that August and the array was interconnected in September, 11.31 kW estimated at 10,571 kWh in its first year. It is spread over three roof faces rather than one – 6.96 kW, 3.48 kW, and a last 0.87 kW on a face with room for only three panels – which is what using a roof properly tends to look like. In April of 2025 the household came back for a soft wash, 4,483 square feet of cleaning surface.

Questions from Hazlet homeowners
How does residential solar work on a Hazlet home?
The panels convert sunlight into direct-current electricity, and an inverter or microinverters convert that into alternating current the house can use. When the array produces more than the house is drawing, the surplus flows out through the utility meter under New Jersey's net-metering rules. When the house needs more than the array is making, the difference comes from the utility.
How does an optimiser system differ from microinverters?
An optimiser system puts DC power optimisers at the modules and a single central inverter elsewhere; a microinverter system puts a small inverter at each module. Both can provide module-level monitoring and rapid shutdown when properly designed -- they are different architectures rather than one being the upgrade of the other.
What is soft washing?
An exterior cleaning method that does most of its work with cleaning solution and time rather than with water pressure. The solution is applied at low pressure, left to act on algae, mildew, moss, lichen, pollen and atmospheric grime, and then rinsed off at a pressure the material can take. The chemistry does the cleaning; the water only carries it away.
