16 kW Generac standby generator in Hazlet, NJ by Green Sun Energy Services.
Dawn from Hazlet, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since September of 2020. The generator was commissioned in April of 2021: 16 kW on natural gas, on a 150-amp service-entrance switch, sized against a 13 kW calculation for the 2,078 square foot house. Two refrigerators, a washer, a gas dryer and a dishwasher make up the load, and the machine carries a comfortable margin over what the calculation required. Seven months separated the contract from the commissioning, which was the shape of generator work through that period – equipment lead times ran well past anything an installer could shorten. Annual maintenance, an extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage all sit behind the machine.

Standby generator questions from Hazlet homeowners
Does a permanently installed generator need a disconnect?
Yes. Permanently installed generators fall under the disconnecting-means requirements of the National Electrical Code's generator article, and the equipment and electrical design have to satisfy those requirements alongside the machine's own listing and instructions.
Can the generator be connected to any nearby gas pipe?
No. The branch supplying the generator has to be sized for the flow and pressure the machine needs. A pipe that happens to be close by may be too small, or may already be carrying too much load. Undersized piping shows up as poor starting, unstable running, reduced output or a generator that shuts down under load.
Will a 16 kW generator run an entire Hazlet house?
For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.
