Replacing a standby generator is a different job from installing one: the gas line and the transfer switch are already there, and the work is making a new machine fit an existing house properly. The 22.5 kW unit in Howell was sized around what the house really draws, a double oven included. Glad it went smoothly.

That eighteen inches is a tested installation dimension, not a zoning setback, and a municipality can require more.
Is every generator trench eighteen inches deep?
No. Eighteen inches is a common cover requirement for certain raceway installations, but it is not a universal generator-trench rule. The code table sets different minimum cover depending on the wiring method and where it runs.
What happens if we add a heat pump, a pool or an EV charger later?
Any major new electrical load should prompt a review of the generator's capacity. A machine sized correctly at installation may no longer be adequate once substantial loads are added. Load management can often accommodate the new equipment without replacing the generator.
