The generator was commissioned in August of 2021: a Generac Guardian rated 19.5 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp service-entrance switch with six smart management modules. Six modules is the largest load management arrangement on the site, and the survey shows why – two washers, an electric dryer and a gas dryer, a double electric oven, three refrigerators, two dishwashers and a sump pump, across 4,500 square feet. A house with two of nearly everything can start several heavy loads at the same moment, and each module holds one of them back for long enough that the machine is never asked for all of it at once. The calculation came to 19 kW and the generator matches it.

Does a propane generator need permits in Freehold?

Which fuel-gas code applies?
New Jersey currently adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code as its Fuel Gas Subcode, which is what governs the piping, testing and shutoff arrangements on a natural-gas generator installation.
Can the generator be connected to any nearby gas pipe?
No. The branch supplying the generator has to be sized for the flow and pressure the machine needs. A pipe that happens to be close by may be too small, or may already be carrying too much load. Undersized piping shows up as poor starting, unstable running, reduced output or a generator that shuts down under load.
