The load calculation asked for 17 kW across the 3,600 square foot house – two sump pumps, a double electric oven, three refrigerators, a washer, a gas dryer and a dishwasher. A double oven and three refrigerators together are what lift the figure well past what the floor area alone would suggest, and the management module is what lets a single machine carry all of it without being sized for everything starting at once. What is Base Flood Elevation and why does it matter here?
Base Flood Elevation is the elevation associated with the base flood -- generally the flood with a one percent chance of being reached or exceeded in any year. For a generator it is often the starting point for working out how high the mechanical and electrical equipment has to be protected or raised.
What is a service-entrance-rated transfer switch?
One that is listed for use as service equipment when installed in the appropriate configuration. These are commonly used for whole-house systems, where the transfer switch becomes part of the home's service arrangement rather than sitting downstream of it.
Can the generator run the propane tank right down?
It is a poor outage plan. Propane should be monitored and topped up before the generator runs out. Usable capacity is not the same as the tank's nominal water capacity, and cold weather reduces how much vapour the tank can deliver just when the machine is working hardest.
