Shannon from Middletown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since January of 2021. The generator was commissioned in July: a Generac Guardian rated 19.5 kW on natural gas, on a 150-amp managed whole-house switch, sized against an 18 kW calculation for the 2,330 square foot house. An electric dryer is what lifts the figure that high for a house that size – electric laundry asks more of a generator in a few minutes than the rest of a house does all day – with two refrigerators, a separate freezer, a sump pump, a washer and a dishwasher completing the load. Whole-house coverage on a 150-amp service is the arrangement worth noting: nothing has to be nominated in advance as the part that keeps working. Annual maintenance, a seven-year extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage all sit behind it.

Standby generator questions from Middletown homeowners
What is Base Flood Elevation and why does it matter here?
Base Flood Elevation is the elevation associated with the base flood -- generally the flood with a one percent chance of being reached or exceeded in any year. For a generator it is often the starting point for working out how high the mechanical and electrical equipment has to be protected or raised.
Is a standby generator the same as a portable one?
No. A home standby generator is permanently installed and automatically connected to the home's electrical and fuel systems. A portable normally has to be placed, fuelled, started and connected by hand each time, using approved connection equipment. The standby machine is designed as an integrated backup-power system rather than as something you fetch out of the garage.
How is the gas pipe size worked out?
From the generator's demand, the available pressure, the pipe length, the allowable pressure drop, the fittings, the pipe material and every other appliance connected to the system. The adopted fuel-gas code carries the sizing requirements and tables, and the model's published fuel consumption goes into the calculation.
