The generator was commissioned in August of 2021: a Generac Guardian rated 21 kW on natural gas, with a 200-amp service disconnect and two smart management modules, sited behind the back porch on the southwest side of the house. Where a generator goes is not just an aesthetic question – it needs clearance for airflow and service access, a sensible run to the gas line and the panel, and enough distance from windows and doors that the exhaust is never an issue. The load calculation set a 19 kW minimum across 4,152 square feet, with two sump pumps, two refrigerators, an electric oven, a washer, a gas dryer and a dishwasher to carry. The generator was covered by an annual maintenance plan through August of 2026.
