David from Jackson, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2015. The array was completed that November: 38 Hyundai panels totaling 9.88 kW, with an Enphase microinverter behind each one rather than a single central inverter. That layout suits a roof this size, because every panel converts its own power and carries its own 25-year warranty, so one shaded or failed panel does not take a whole string down with it. The design estimates about 10,216 kilowatt hours in the first year against what JCP&L supplies. The existing roof was in good enough shape to build on, so the work stayed with the array.

Solar questions from Jackson homeowners
Do solar panels lose output as they age?
Modules normally lose a small amount of maximum output over time. Manufacturers publish a long-term performance warranty setting out how much of the rated output should remain after a given number of years. It is worth comparing the actual warranty curve rather than the headline number of years.
Should trees be cut down before installing solar?
Only where the production benefit justifies it and doing so is legally and environmentally appropriate. A good installer quantifies what a particular tree costs in production rather than recommending removal as a matter of course. Ownership of the tree, municipal tree ordinances, neighbors' trees and regrowth all come into it.
What is net metering?
It lets an eligible New Jersey solar customer receive kWh credit for eligible excess solar electricity exported to the grid, up to the amount consumed over the applicable annualised period. The utility meter tracks energy delivered to the property and energy received from it.
