A 20 kW Generac on a whole-house switch
Commissioned on 23 April 2021. The calculation asked for a minimum of 14 kW under NEC Article 220 Part IV and a Generac rated 18 kW on natural gas went in – 20 kW on propane – behind a 200-amp service-rated managed whole-house transfer switch mounted outdoors beside the meter, with a smart management module.
The load survey is 3,000 square feet with a refrigerator, a separate freezer, a dishwasher, a washer, a gas dryer – and two sump pumps. The pumps are the reason this house is carried whole rather than on a list of chosen circuits. Heavy rain and a power cut arrive together far more often than either arrives alone, and a sump that stops during the first is how a basement floods during the second. The machine has been on our Silver plan since it went in: annual maintenance, on the calendar.
200 warm white C9 bulbs, and an old set taken out
December of 2024. Two hundred C9 bulbs in warm white along the roofline – the large traditional bulb at 2700K, the warm end of white. The job also took out the existing lights that had been fitted under the window soffits, which is worth mentioning because it is the part of a lighting change nobody thinks to ask about. Old runs left in place behind new ones look untidy from the street in daylight, and they leave the next installer working around somebody else’s clips.
