James from Farmingdale, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since December of 2012, one of the earliest relationships on the site. The generator was commissioned in May of 2013: 17 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp whole-house transfer switch. The load calculation asked for only 8 kW across the 1,800 square foot house, so the machine was specified at more than double the requirement – a decision that has aged well, because a generator asked for a fraction of what it can produce works less hard every time it runs. Thirteen years on, an annual maintenance plan and monitoring we manage both still sit behind it.

Does new gas piping have to be pressure tested in Farmingdale?
Yes. Gas piping subject to the adopted fuel-gas code must be inspected and tested before it is accepted. New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code, which governs the inspection, the test pressure and how long the test has to hold.
Which electrical code applies to a new installation?
Under the current New Jersey code cycle the Electrical Subcode adopts the 2023 National Electrical Code. Projects filed during a code-transition period are evaluated under the applicable transition provisions rather than assumed into the newer cycle.
Can a standby generator run central air conditioning?
Yes, when it is sized for it. The design has to account for both the running demand and the starting surge of the air-conditioning equipment. Load-management equipment can be used where necessary so that demand does not all arrive at once.
