14 kW Standby Generator Service in Farmingdale, NJ | Generac Generator

Farmingdale, NJ · Client since July 2020

Eileen from Farmingdale, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2020. The generator was installed by another company and commissioned in November of 2012, and the servicing came to us at the eight-year mark. Every interval since has been kept, each in high summer – the eight-year service in July of 2020, the nine-year in 2021, the ten-year in 2022 and the visits that followed. A machine now in its fourteenth year is well past the age at which most standby generators have been quietly forgotten, and the difference is entirely the record. An annual maintenance plan covers the yearly visit, with the manufacturer’s standard warranty behind the machine.

Standby generator questions from Farmingdale homeowners

Why can't a generator be wired straight into the panel?

Because a standby generator needs approved transfer or interconnection equipment so that it cannot unintentionally energise the utility supply. The transfer switch is one of the most important electrical-safety components in the whole installation, not an accessory to it.

Can the existing natural-gas service in a Farmingdale home supply a generator?

Often yes, but the gas system has to be evaluated first. The review covers the generator's BTU demand, meter capacity, available pressure, regulator capacity, pipe diameter and length, and every other gas appliance in the house -- furnace, boiler, water heater, range and fireplace among them.

Can a generator be raised on a platform?

Yes. Manufacturer guidance specifically covers installations on platforms and other supporting structures, and directs them to the applicable fire-safety standard, including a noncombustible surface extending beyond the generator for the configuration addressed. Flood and structural requirements have to be satisfied as well.
